Rumor – Sony Plans PS5 Slim Release For Q3 2023

Sony Interactive Entertainment is prepping a PS5 Slim release for the third quarter of 2023, according to a new report on TheLeak.co.

As expected with a hardware revision, TheLeak’s report claims that Sony will reduce the size and weigh of the PS5, which it has been trying to accomplish with reducing the weight with the B and C chassis.

The PS5 Slim is reportedly known as the D chassis internally, and may not actually feature the ‘Slim’ branding as with previous PlayStation hardware revisions. As reported on Insider-Gaming, the new PS5 is due to replace the existing model, so the slim version will be the only model available.

The site further adds that an internal document has revealed Sony will crease production of the existing PS5 in October FY23, with remaining stock going on sale the following month. The slim version of the PS5 will reportedly launch in September FY23, with production set to kick off in April.

Looking even further ahead, sources close to the site have claimed that a PS5 Pro is unlikely to arrive until FY25, although Sony obviously hasn’t said anything about this yet, nor has it confirmed the Slim version. As such, you know the drill — take all this with a pinch of salt for the time being.

As reported previously on PSU, it’s been rumoured that Sony had secured 6nm chips with TSMC & AMD to use in new hardware, which points to the release of a PS5 Slim or even a Pro model.

The PS5 has now shipped 25 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2020.
